Light Propagation in Heterogeneous Opal-Based Photonic Crystals
2006
Ballistic light propagation in the heterogeneous photonic crystals based on the thin triple-film opal have been studied in the wavelength range of low order photonic bandgaps. Since the scattered light experiences the diffraction attenuation, the spectra and the angle diagrams of the transmitted and forward scattered light have been used to identify the effect of heterostructuring.
Light scattering in opal heterojunctions
2006
Light propagation in photonic hetero-crystals, consisting of two opal films with different lattice constants, has been investigated in the realistic regime of weak scattering, when the main light flux is transported by ballistic photons. The light scattering at the photonic bandgap interface is studied in combination with transmission data. The spectra and directionality diagrams of scattered light of single- and hetero-opal films are compared. The rate of decrease of the scattering intensity as a function of the scattering angle has been used to quantify the scattering strength. The anisotropy of the interface scattering is identified by deducing the trajectories of single scattered photon…
Light propagation in triple-film hetero-opals
2005
Spectra of transmitted and forward scattered light of single opal films and triple-film hetero-opals have been compared. The presence of an intermediate film in hetero-opal results in an anomalous increase of the scattered light intensity and in the change of the mainly ballistic light propagation regime to the mainly diffusive one in the frequency range of the photonic bandgap defect state.
Image transmission through dynamic scattering media by single-pixel photodetection
2014
Smart control of light propagation through highly scattering media is a much desired goal with major technological implications. Since interaction of light with highly scattering media results in partial or complete depletion of ballistic photons, it is in principle impossible to transmit images through distances longer than the extinction length. Nevertheless, different methods for image transmission, focusing, and imaging through scattering media by means of wavefront control have been published over the past few years. In this paper we show that single-pixel optical systems, based on compressive detection, can also overcome the fundamental limitation imposed by multiple scattering to suc…
